I’m trying to burn data files with an external bluray drive through finder. The first burn went flawlessly. Now I get an error every time I try and burn a disc in finder. The only successfully burn I had my files on an external drive. I have now tried the external drive and having the files on the desktop. Both don’t work. I have restarted my computer without any luck. I’m running a Mid 2011 iMac 27″ with version 10.10.05 of Yosemite.
So, I just recently installed Mountain Lion on my MBP and I also just installed Windows 8 Professional 64-bit on my PC (got it early through DreamSpark) and I have an external drive connected to my PC that is FULLY SHARED according to Windows to the best of my knowledge.
My MBP can see my windows PC on the network and when I click on it in the Finder, I am given two options “Users” or “ShareDrive”, in which “ShareDrive” is the one I am trying to connect to. I can open “Users” and inside is my “Public” folder on the Windows PC which houses “Documents, Music, Pictures, etc.” and I can move files in between the two computers through there but for some reason when I click on “ShareDrive”, I am getting the message “The operation can’t be completed because the original item for ‘ShareDrive’ can’t be found.”
I have tried everything I can think of from tweaking permissions, sharing settings, etc…but I have had no success. I have also searched around and got 9 pages deep in Google and found nothing that was relatively successful.
Does anybody have any expert advice?
The new status bar in Safari 9 only shows if you hover over a link or load a page, fading in and out with a rather annoying animation. It hides page content, and it may move to the right or left side of the window. I just want the old status bar back that’s permanently on at the bottom of the window. There’s extensions for the status bar out there, but they were made for Safari 8 and earlier to create this kind of status bar that fades in and out, so I don’t see any way to get the old functionality back. Any ideas?
Hi
I’ve been trying to copy files from one external hard drive (Iomega Prestige) to another one (intenso) via my 2009 Macbook Pro. I’m using OSX 10.6.8.
The Intenso is brand new and empty. When I’ve tried to copy files to the Intenso HD I’ve been frequently getting this message :
“The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name [name of file I’m trying to copy] already exists.” This message doesn’t appear immediately. The copying process will go on for a few minutes as normal and then the message will appear somewhere at the middle or end of the copying process. This has happened with a number of different files and folders that I’ve tried to copy.
But the file couldn’t already exist because the Intenso doesn’t have that file in it.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Hi,
Yesterday I formatted and installed El Capitan on my Macbook, and today I tried to setup time machine and my other software I use for backup/restore to my Airport Extreme (2TB).
I think I have an ACL issue, I see the file permissions on the extreme as root:wheel but when I try to change back to me (sudo chown -R <myuserID>:wheel I get the error “Operation not permitted”.
If I use FileExplorer on my iPhone then I can use the disc without permission issue, but from my MAC I can read but not make any changes.
I recall there is a similar issue with Windows NTFS and file permissions but I cant find reference how to modify the ACL.
Error :
chown: CBT/Cisco/Exam.Walkthrough.-.Cisco.ICND1.and.ICND2/21.-.Grab.Bag.mp4: Operation not permitted
chown: CBT/Cisco/Exam.Walkthrough.-.Cisco.ICND1.and.ICND2: Operation not permitted
File permissions:

Command :
sudo chown -R <myUserID>:wheel /Volumes/Airport/CBT

Hello, I recently completely reinstalled OS X el capitan, and now I am trying to make my folder permissions only read/write for my own admin user. But when I try to change permission of Applications folders everyone section to No access, a pop up menu says “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission”. What should I do ? Does this mean I am not granted to all access of my computer , or maybe someone else controls them ? Need help, thank you.
After upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite, Apache web server will not run when issuing the command sudo apachectl start. I get the message “org.apache.httpd.plist: Operation already in progress”
I am a web developer and a Mac newbie. No changes have been made to the .conf files. I had upgraded php when I was on Mavericks. The upgrade to PHP 6 was successful. I have created a username.conf file in the /etc/apache2/users folder so that I can create my web sites in my user directory. Again, all of this was working on Mavericks before I upgraded to Yosemite.
Now I just cannot start Apache. Any help would be appreciated.
Running a Macbook Pro3,1 OSX 10.6.8
In the trash to be emptied: an OLD Backups.backupdb folder on a Firewire HDD – I bought a new, larger HDD that Time Machine now uses – I’m sure this has something to do with the refusal to empty (i.e. whatever OSX sets on backup folders), which I have never encountered before.
I have tried holding down Option while selecting Empty Trash – fails with the same code.
I downloaded Trash It – but it crashes when I try to run it .
I tried “sudo rm -ri ~/.Trash” – that completed, and I got excited – but the trash still has the Backups.backupdb stuff in it, and I realized that since the trash in question is on another volume, what I actually need to remove is my trash folder under the .Trashes folder on the firewire HDD. I can’t remove .Trashes itself, and I can’t list the folders under it, so I’m stuck there.
I could simply reformat the drive in question – and I will if nothing simpler presents itself – but I haven’t so far because I have an enormous photo library on the same drive (that’s why I want the space back!), I’m reluctant to trust Time Machine 100% to bring it back (even though it is supposedly backed up), and it would take a LONG time to move it to another disk.
I appreciate any advice!
